Going back to the 19th century, bicycle cargo trailers have always had utilitarian value. Unfortunately, many current models still seem to have the look, feel and weight of their Victorian forebears!
Tony's cargo trailers are ingeniously designed to be as light as possible, while retaining maximum strength and rigidity. They even possess a certain elegance, if you have the eye of an engineer. From his decades of building custom racing and touring bicycles, Tony has learned how to transfer his lightweight metallurgy and manufacturing techniques to trailer design.
The structure of the cargo bicycle trailer is a lightweight high-tensile steel space frame, capable of transporting more than 200 pounds with manoeuvrability, stability, and safety. A model is available that breaks down readily for shipping, yet which retains its strength.
Multi-Bin Trailers - Model MBT.
These space-frame trailers are well suited to stacked Rubbermade 68L/ /18 USG totes on the bottom row, and other sizes on the next two rows, or whatever you need to carry.
Ideal for commercial delivery services where the towbar is at hand for use as a handcart. Just pull a pin to disconnect it from the bike and voila-A neat handcart ready to go through doorways and into elevators
This design gets the weight as low as practical while still maintaining adequate ground clearance.
For smooth rapid stops and starts you can add the "U-Hitch/Swivel" option, which allows you to lay the bike down without damaging anything. As on all Tony's trailers the hitch fits all sizes and heights of seat-posts.
(Unit shown above is a 3-Binner model with , with optional signage rack add-on. Ask us about this great way to promote your business!)
The BinPicker - Recycling/Cargo/Utility Trailer
|

|
|
This particular trailer evolved as the need for a tough, versatile, general purpose vehicle became apparent. Watch a short video of this trailer on YouTube!
The breeding ground was the hard scrabble atmosphere of the downtown Binners in Victoria which was also the testing ground.
The resulting trailer is being used in many applications such as:-
- Bulk newspaper deliveries,
- Camp and trail maintenance,
- Contract Gardening and Landscaping,
- General hauling for recreation and work,
- Parcel deliveries,
- Mobile needle exchange wagon
- Compost Collection
- And of course recycling programs everywhere! The BinPicker is utilized by the Cowichan Recyclists. To see the BinPicker in action, click here.
OR ALL OF THE ABOVE!
It is available in several lengths-see price list- all with an interior width of 24 inches between the frame posts-economical for cutting the plywood deck.
The width above the frame between the extension sides can be increased by up to 8 inches by the use of the Bichard brackets.
Bin-Buddies
| Bin Buddies™ are water resistant nylon fabric inserts with pockets around the inside perimeter for storing a variety of items in commonly found plastic storage bins while still allowing the lid to fit snugly as the original manufacturers intended. |
Flatdeck Trailers - Model FD
(Also K9 and BK.)
This is probably the most cost effective and versatile trailer of the dozens we design and build!
The trailer is usually sold without the tote or kennel if shipping is involved, so you are actually buying a basic chassis (with or without a plywood deck) and towbar system, to which you can attach a flat-deck, tote or kennel either by bolting or using tie-wraps or pipe clamps.
Many other options are available including side rails- see the Price list -click here
With a kennel attached it becomes a Model K9. Alternatively with a large tote attached to the chassis it becomes a Model BK.
The deck is 24" wide, and of course the length that you chose.
A note on tie-wraps:- the larger ones are a very effective means of attachment, likewise pipe clamps, both eliminate drilling holes in the chassis.
Pricing is based on the effective useable length of the chassis.
CONVERSIONS
This one starts off in life as a quality gardening hand-cart, made in Toronto. To which we retrofit axles and wheels better suited to the higher speeds of a bicycle trailer plus a detachable tow bar system. Here is what Jonas aka ecoman has to say about it "Thank you for making it happen, rides great holds approx 15 flats of plants plus hand tools and she looks good too. Cheers, Jonas"
